Fit the envelope to paid blanks

Measure the largest weekly panel plus clamps. A 400 mm bed helps nested plaques; a compact 300 × 180 mm cell is enough for stamps, inlay, and small relief if rigidity and spindle power are there.

Spindle class versus laser engraving

CNC mills depth, pockets, and joinery that a laser cannot. Lasers still win for fine surface engraving and thin organic cuts. Many wood shops run both rather than forcing one tool to do the other's job.

Buying checklist

Budget spoilboards, bits, dust collection, CAM, and scrap. Confirm the manufacturer lists wood (and any acrylic or light metal) on the exact trim. Treat preorder configurations as a timing constraint, not a spec upgrade.
