Fiber and MOPA Lasers for Business Metal Marking
If stainless, anodized aluminum, or coated metal personalization is core revenue, diode and CO2 platforms are the wrong comparison set. Fiber and MOPA galvo systems are built for that work.

When fiber belongs on the shortlist
Prioritize fiber when metal marking, serializing, or branding metal goods is a weekly revenue line. Diode machines can touch coated metals in limited cases, but they are not a substitute for dedicated fiber markers.
What MOPA adds
MOPA systems expand pulse control. That matters when color marking on stainless or more nuanced annealing/contrast work is part of the catalog. If you only need simple dark marks, a standard fiber marker may be enough.
Buy the constraints, not the wattage brag
Confirm standard marking field, fixture needs, software workflow, and enclosure/safety accessories. A 60W marker with a tiny default field can lose to a well-fixtured 20–30W system for your SKUs.
Do not force a diode-vs-fiber shootout
Compare fiber markers to other fiber/MOPA options. Compare diode cutters to diode cutters. Cross-type comparisons only help when you are deciding which revenue line to fund first—not which machine is “more powerful.”

Frequently asked questions
Can a CO2 laser replace a fiber marker for metal?
Generally no for bare metal marking. CO2 remains the better path for wood/acrylic cutting; fiber/MOPA is the metal-marking path.
Do I need MOPA on day one?
Only if color marking or advanced pulse control is part of the paid catalog. Otherwise start with a clear fiber shortlist and upgrade when those jobs appear.
