FDM vs Resin for Business: Which Path Pays First?
FDM and resin are not interchangeable shortlists. Pick the path that matches the finish and strength of the work you sell—then compare peers inside that path.

When FDM should win
Choose FDM for jigs, fixtures, packaging prototypes, brackets, and functional parts in PLA/PETG/ABS-class materials. Throughput, durability, and operating simplicity usually beat resin for these jobs.
When resin should win
Choose resin when customers pay for fine detail and smooth surfaces—miniatures, jewelry masters, detailed product models. Plan wash, cure, and resin handling as part of the cell cost.
Many shops eventually run both
A common pattern is FDM for fixtures and packaging plus a resin cell for masters. Do not force one machine to do both well on day one if your revenue lines are already split.
Compare peers, not marketing categories

Can resin replace FDM for fixtures?
Usually no. Resin parts can be brittle for shop fixtures, and process overhead is higher. Keep FDM for structural shop tools.
Is 8K resin always better?
Only if the extra detail maps to paid work. Otherwise an entry HALOT-class machine may be enough while you validate demand.
